Having read a review of the Pinlock double-glazing system to stop your visor steaming up (which I also wholeheartedly endorse), I thought I would let you know about some great products I have been using for a while now.

Picture this. It is pouring with rain, and you've just spent the last 6 miles in the outside lane of the A14 following one of those mobile chicanes, while it passes a similar vehicle in the inside lane. Finally it pulls back in, and you start to overtake. Instantly you are blinded by the filthy spray that has coated your visor. What do you do? Leave it, and stare pop-eyed into the distance trying to make out the road ahead, or rub furiously with your left hand making things worse and scratching that expensive visor as well?

Personally I do neither as I use

RainX is a water repellent preparation that you apply to the outside of your visor (or any vehicle's windows) which makes the water instantly bead and run off. It does not cause any distortion or smearing that other similar products do, and lasts a long time (easily a couple of hundred rain-soaked miles). The manufacturer also produces RainX Fog Guard which is for the inside of visors / windows. I don't use it for that but instead apply it to my (plastic) glasses. Its not as successful as their main product, but every little helps.

Before all the smart-Alecs write in (you know who you are), RainX has the following warning (other than the "Do Not Swallow" for the benefit of our edjucaytd yoof) on the bottle: "Do not apply to plastic or painted surfaces". All I can say is that I have been using it for several years now and I am still using my original Nolan visor (that's 30,000 miles of rain, sleet and some sunshine) and it is as good as new. If you decide to try RainX for yourself, then please test a small area of the visor that you don't look through BEFORE applying it fully.

I have been informed by one of my penny pinching friends that Halfords do their own brand of rain repellent that is a lot cheaper than the RainX original, and it doesn't have the above warning. The choice is yours.
